MORS' work focuses on exploring the interface between humans and machines. Object #2 aims to make the phenomenon of interference visually and acoustically tangible in a room installation. The aluminum-coated fabric gives the panels a clear industrial surface. It is only when the layers interact that complex patterns and moiré effects emerge.
The lightness of the material sets the panels in motion even with a slight breeze. A fan keeps them in constant motion, allowing visitors to influence the shape and behavior of the object by affecting the air flow.
The reduction is also reflected in the sound: speakers emit rising and falling sine waves that overlap and amplify each other in the room. This creates audible beats and modulations.
The title “A Flame is its own Reflection” comes from the song program of the band Silver Apples, known for their groundbreaking use of homemade oscillators. It can be interpreted as a metaphor for self-perception: just as a flame reflects its own light, MORS' works interact with their surroundings and audience, creating an immersive experience.
